COMPOSITION
Mastitek is an off-white or cream-colored oily suspension, with each 10 g syringe tube containing cephalexin monohydrate equivalent to 200 mg of cephalexin and kanamycin monosulfate equivalent to 100,000 IU of kanamycin.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
Mastitek Intramammary Suspension is used in the treatment of clinical mastitis in lactating dairy cows for bacteria susceptible to the combination of cefalexin and kanamycin such as Staphylococcus aureus (see pharmacodynamic properties), Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis and Escherichia coli.
ADMINISTRATION ROUTE AND DOSE
For intramammary use.
Two syringes are applied to the infected udder quarter at 24-hour intervals. The entire contents of the syringe are used for each udder quarter, and each syringe is for single use only.
Before infusion, the udder should be milked out completely, the teat should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and care should be taken to avoid contamination of the injector nozzle.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD(S)
Cattle should not be slaughtered within 10 days after the second administration of the drug, and milk obtained within 5 days (10 milkings) should not be used for human consumption.
MARKETING PACKAGING
It is offered for sale in 30 or 80 single-use white colored 10 g low density polyethylene syringes in a white plastic container with a lid.
