In application with drinking water, the practical dose can be calculated according to the formula below;
….mg product/kg bw/day |
x |
Mean bw of the animals to be treated (kg) |
= The amount of the product to be added to each liter of drinking water |
Mean daily water consumption (litre) per animal |
To ensure a correct dosage, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible to avoid underdosing. The uptake of medicated water depends on the clinical conditions of the birds and the concentration of doxycycline should be adjusted accordingly.
Use appropriately and properly calibrated dosing equipment. The daily amount is to be added to the drinking water such that all medication will be consumed in 24 hours. Medicated drinking water should be freshly prepared every 24 hours.
It is recommended to prepare a concentrated presolution and to dilute this further to therapeutic concentrations if required.
It should be ensured that all animals considered for treatment have easy access to medicated water sources. Irrigation equipment should be adequately cleaned after treatment to avoid sub-therapeutic doses of the product. During the treatment, medicated water should be the only source of water for the animals. Medicated water should not be prepared or stored in metal containers, and rusted equipment should not be used. The solubility depends on the pH, and precipitation may occur in drinking water with high alkaline properties.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD(S)
